Things to make an interesting morning
Aug. 4th, 2009 11:59 amYesterday I continued my recent project of cleaning the garage. I'm trying to actually get my workspace usable which means I need to do something with those boxes and other things that have been taking up a lot of the space since we moved in almost two years ago. Most of this has just been going through boxes and deciding what needs to be pitched or recycled, what needs to be taken into the house, and what can be used for projects. Then there were the two air conditioning units from the old apartments -- one on the bench and a much larger one on the floor, both really needing to be out of the way. Looking around, I decided the best place for them would probably be the large shelf over the work bench area (it's more than strong enough for the weight and they'd be well out of the way there.)
I knew the smaller one was fairly light and had no trouble getting it up there. I cautiously shifted the other around and tested to see how difficult it was for me to pick up. Wow, no problem! I found I could lift it with just a bit of effort. I moved it up to the bench and carefully shoved it up to the top shelf and out of the way. Score! It was safely out of the way, back far enough that it wasn't going to fall off and I've now got space under the bench so I'm not so confined when I'm trying to work. This is great! I continued to clean and organize for a while longer and I have to say the place looks great. I even found some materials I was considering buying for current projects. Woot!
Then I woke up this morning and tried to get out of bed. The sudden stabbing pain in my left shoulder and upper back is certainly new. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed that before. The accompanying scream annoyed the cats and the slow, restricted movements annoyed me. It certainly woke me up quickly, although I'm still drinking my morning pot of coffee. I've taken a dose of Aleve and I'm using my microwave heating pad, but I think I'm going to wait until tomorrow to take advantage of my newly cleared workspace.
In other news, I just heard from
isolde_deely -- they're having flooding in Louisville. They've lost power and their basement is flooded. She's fine, the cats are fine, and her guys are fine. (Although the guys aren't able to get back to the house right now due to the flooding.) They have most likely lost most of their gaming stuff, unfortunately, as the basement has flooded almost to the top of the stairs.
Sheesh. I hope everyone else is ok out there.
