That Govenor Jeb Bush is seeking to take custody of Terri Schiavo out of a sibling familiarity. After all, the poor woman's been brain-dead for over 15 years.

I'm sorry, but that poor woman died 15 years ago! How selfish do her parents and family have to get - keeping her alive in this state causing millions of dollars to the taxpayers to keep her alive.
She can't hear them - or at least cannot recognize that she hears them, she can't chew, she can't swallow, she's incontinet (yeah, my spelling sucks), she unresponsive and unaware of her surroundings.
Okay, not that I side with the husband that takes a lover and has kids while remaining married to a veggie - but let the poor woman's suffering end for pity sake!
I am not a God type person, but to all the religious fanatics out there who keep praying and asking God to help save her soul... Apparently God wanted her 15 years ago and it has been her families selish desires that have kept her here since.
And I am a God-type person. Born again Christian (though I got over the annoying parts). I treat it now kind of like the masons do: if ya wanna know anything, just ask. If not, cool... let's chat about something else.
I'm also an Old-time Republican (you know the "small government, no tax raising" Republican party? Not the one we have today which is "justify whatever we want to spend your money on by fear-mongering our way into your pockets") The party that used to be all for freedom to let you be yourself (Abe Lincoln = first Republican president) and get the government the hell out of the people's way so that the people can decide for themselves, thank you very much.
And a believer in Quality of Life.
Hooray for the Supreme Court who decided (yet again) to not intervene. They've turned down the requests to intervene many times before and they're still doing it... good for you, S. Court!
So here I am, seeing all these news reports about a bunch of Christians who are screaming to help that poor woman... and all I can think of is "that poor woman was supposed to go home to be with her Lord years ago... and YOU CHRISTIANS are keeping her from paradise!"
Actually, she's probably already there, sitting next to my dad, looking down and saying "aren't those people stupid? I'm not there!! Let the body die, already!!"
Having been in the room when two different people have died, I think I can safely say that it's OK to let people go when it's their time. It's not up to me to say any different... it's between that person and their God/Goddess/Diety of choice (or lack thereof).
For the record: I do not want extraordinary means done to extend my life past it's normal time. I do not want to be hooked up to ventilators or given feeding tubes. If I am brain dead, have no chance to come out of it, and my doctors and husband agree that there's no hope, UNHOOK me! DNR. Take my organs and use them to their best advantage in someone else, or let my body be cut up for new doctors just learning their craft.... then burn the body and scatter the remains. I'll have been long gone by then. Guaranteed.

But that's just my quiet little opinion. :D
